UNMUTED is a 4-episode anthology docuseries, which features women fighting to overcome tremendous obstacles and inspires viewers to join organized efforts and calls to action to improve the lives of women across the globe. You can watch a trailer for the docuseries here.
Acid attacks are often targeted at women as the result of the refusal of a marriage, the denial of sex, and the sexual rejection of men and boys. In this episode, acid attack survivors Martha and Rebecca bravely share their stories and our cameras follow their journey as they leave their home countries in Africa and fly to the United States for pro-bono reconstructive surgery and treatment to reduce the pain of their scars by renowned Beverly Hills plastic surgeons.
UNMUTED partners with nonprofits and NGOs to join in calls to action with every episode. For this episode, we are working with CERESAV, a non-profit founded by acid attack survivor Hanifa Nakiryowa, that raise awareness of acid violence in Uganda and internationally, advocate for changes in laws on the sale and distribution of acid and provide legal and health services to acid violence survivors. We are also working with Face Forward, an NGO that arranges pro bono reconstructive surgeries and emotional counseling for acid attack survivors. The impact campaign for this episode addresses the legislature needed to stop the distribution of acid and bring awareness to the long-term medical costs associated with acid attacks.
For this episode, we invited actress Torrey DeVitto to be part of the episode and lead you through stories of Hanifa as well as the volunteers, doctors, and organizations that are helping Hanifa on her road to recovery.
UNMUTED is executive-produced by Yvette Nicole Brown and Charlotte Lubert.
By contributing to this campaign, you will help create a docuseries which will raise awareness regarding this violent assault, inspire hope by focusing on the positive strides being made, and implement a robust impact campaign to engage people throughout the world and make lasting change.
