UNMUTED is a 4-episode anthology docuseries, which features women fighting to overcome tremendous obstacles and inspires viewers to join organized efforts and calls to action to improve the lives of women across the globe. You can watch a trailer for the docuseries here.
Families in rural India practice a dowry system, the younger the girl, the less the dowry the bride’s family pays to the bridegroom’s family. For poor families with multiple children, this is the only way they can survive. Rashmi, 15 years old, is trying to escape impending marriage. Child Protection Officers from the free school that she attends visit her home to prevent her parents from arranging the illegal child marriage of her and her sisters. Back in the United States, we meet Jenn, a child marriage survivor, who is working to change the laws in Massachusetts, where there is NO minimum age to marry.
(Update: Jenn and other advocates pushed lawmakers to pass a law in 2022 to ban child marriage.)
We invited actress Marie Avgeropoulos to be part of the episode and guide you through Rashmi and Jenn's stories.
UNMUTED is executive-produced by Yvette Nicole Brown and Charlotte Lubert.
UNMUTED partners with nonprofits and NGOs to join in calls to action with every episode. FFLV keeps girls in school in India by offering them a free education until they are 18 to prevent early marriage. Unchained at Last is dedicated to eliminating child marriage in the USA, which remains legal in 44 states.
